Jacksonville's schools are in a deep hole, little help in sight

There has been a lot of debate if our schools are funded enough. As a teacher who has worked almost exclusively in our struggling schools I can say without a doubt this is the case. There are so many needs that are going unmet.

But at the same time I think even if every school had it’s own printing press as long as we had the same leadership we do then our schools will continue to struggle. Kids are passed through without the academic skills they need, without a work ethic and without discipline because our leaders don’t require them, then crams them into a one size fits all curriculum regardless of their ability and aptitude. It turns out we can be a B district even if many of our kids aren’t capable of doing much.

As long as our district leaders are more concerned with appearances than doing the right thing no amount of money will dig us out of the hole we find ourselves in.
